Don't BLINK!!!

![]() Genre: Progressive Rock, Acoustic Released: January 24, 2006 For fans of: Katatonia, Porcupine Tree, Riverside and Lighter Acoustic Opeth 1. Sweet Leaf 2. The Burden is Mine... Alone 3. Maybe? 4. Alone 5. 9-29-045: My Greater Cause, Pt. 1/Home Coming, Pt. 2/House of Cards, Pt. 3 6. Childs Play Part 3 7. High Tide Waves Overall one of my favorites from 06, I'll start reviewing it song by song. Sweet Leaf is a soft song hat really shows the personality of this album. A depressing song with acoustic guitars and strings playing lightly in the backround. The interlude for this song is amazing, an electric keyboard really shines during this, then the interlude ends with a french horn blaring a c note. The ending for this song is oneof the beautiful endings I have heard. The Burden is Mine... Alone a very sad but true song. The lyrics really reach to me and make me think. "I feel the blood under my skin Like so many times before This journey got the best of me And I am sorry I couldn't wait anymore The burden is mine... alone I feel the blood under my skin And I hate every part of me How could I lose the only thing worth keeping Now I'm sorry I didn't wait for you The burden is mine... alone" This song also has a great acoustic guitar line thoughout. Maybe? A weaker track compared to every other track on the album but nonetheless, the vocals on it are wonderful, they have a very sorrowful, meaniful feel to them. At the end of the track it the piece starts to build up into a very somber feel, with a very haunting electric lead guitar ending the track. Alone One of the best tracks of the album, in my opinion. The violins and guitars pretty much lead the whole song. The way the drums and bass are mixed in it makes the piece feel very open in some parts, but in the verse's the song seems very close. Very good use of delay on the acoustic guitar. The piece ends with two violins harmonizing perfectly. 9-29-045: My Greater Cause, Pt. 1/Home Coming, Pt. 2/House of Cards, Pt 3 My Greater Cause, Pt. 1 a song with great lyrics about mankind. "As I ran down the street all the Faces appeared to me one by one By the fifth I took a sudden turn The melting snow revealed the bodies Buried long ago All the violence a man can take Broken bones, and broken homes Beneath my feet On the dark side We'll meet again And cook it up for one more dance It's who we are But I swear it'll be my last And if I go, I go alone" Home Coming, Pt. 2 a wonderful instrumental, the keyboard in the instrumental shows off once more and helps leads on into the finally part, with a crescendo of instruments. Some of the samples of voices on this track are some of most haunting I have heard. House of Cards, Pt 3 very soft in the intro but the chorus is on the somewhat agressive and depressing, with a line of, "Here they come/Pulling me up from the mud/I've failed yet I'm holding on/Here they come/I'm hiding in vain/My shadow and I/In our house of cards". The vocal harmonies are perfectly matched, portraying many people in need of rescue. The song ends with a very peaceful guitar lead, leading onto the next instrutmental. Child's Play, Pt. 3 an instrumental, that features no acoustics just clean electrics with some overdrive and stereo rotation. The piano and strings are very haunting, with beautiful lines thoughout the instrutmental. The piece ends very quiety, with the piano having a very desparing line. High Tide Waves A very haunting ending song that reminds of sitting on a porch with an acoustic during the verse but during the chorus I feel as if I am in a forest drowning in a rivers waves, trying to pull myself out. The lyrics really make me think this. "Hear that something... A pale misty sound The more things change the more they stay the same Heading out on high tide waves Not afraid to fall, I'm older now, still standing tall I'm holding head above water Ain't going down I'm holding head above water Ain't going drown, Ain't going drown I'm holding head above water Can't hold me tied I'm holding head above water You can't break me... Shredded I've spoke in different words... A grey soar voice Different lines, remain the same Heading out on high tide waves Not afraid to fall, I'm older now, still standing tall On this quest for answers, shaped my eyes Without anger, wasted line Cant you sense this feeling, feel it flow I'm stronger now, let the tension go I'm holding head above water Ain't going down I'm holding head above water Ain't going drown, Ain't going drown I'm holding head above water Can't hold me tied I'm holding head above water You can't break me... Shredded" It is also one more agressive songs off the album that only shows a little of Green Carnations past work. Overall if this album is one of the best of 2006, I recommend this to any Prog fan or Acoustic Fan. A rating of 4.9/5 |

Look at Josh: The Contribution Machiiiiiiiiine!
Addddddedness. I've never heard of these guys, but this CD seems right up my alley. I'm gonna go check 'em out. And to be sure, this "Sweet Leaf" has nothing to do with the homonymous Black Sabbath song, true? |
