This is the 2nd studio album by highly praised Post-Metal band, Isis. From what I've read, this is their best album. I can't agree with that, since this is the only album I have from them. What I can agree with is, this album is masterpiece. Combinding elements of Sludge, atmosphere, ambient, and harsh vocals, the songs on Oceanic are well put-together and just beautiful. Nothing drags on forever. Like a buddy of mine said, you literally feel like you're in the ocean!

The album is just over a hour long with 9 songs. With two of them being short, lyricless tracks. This is one of those albums you must listen to from start to finish. Each track flows perfectly from song to song. Plus, each track is different in its own way. The lyrics. While I'm not a big lyrics guy, they're nothing overdone. Just simple that goes with the album's theme. Like in "The Beginning of the End:"

Washing away
He thinks of you
Everything slows
Lights flashing through

The water flies
Over his head
You are me now
As you lay on my bed

Harsh vocals are present on Oceanic. While some don't enjoy that kind-of style, it's not all 'up in your face,' it blends well with the instruments. Which makes it a balanced record soundwise. Note: On "Weight," there only women's vocals on it.

This is a must have (essential for Post-Metal fans). Overall, perfect.

6/5 (or just 5/5 :P )
