I got Rather Ripped a few days ago, and I like it mucho. Anyone else agree?

On another note, I've been wanting to learn Teen Age Riot forever, but the tabs on UG aren't too swell, and every time I try to tune my high E to a G it breaks. How do you play it and have any pointers?

I heard that Sonic Youth was good but I've never heard anything by them . . .

Go listen! What are you waiting for?!

Start out with Teen Age Riot, everyone knows that. I'd also recommend Junkie's Promise, that's my favorite song by them.

Hmm all their albums are good. Try some of their more recent stuff like Sonic Nurse or Rather Ripped to balance it. I dunno.

A) I have little money B ) I don't like asking people for money unless I know I can pay them back soon(even parents although for somethings I don't have to pay them back) C) I have no job D) There's only about one place I know of I can get a job(Publix) and they rarely hire 15 year olds. E) As far as I know my friends don't listen to them either. F) I wouldn't know what to buy G) I don't buy CDs unless I absolutely know that I will enjoy it.

I'm the exact same way, but:

A) With the advent of the internet, you have access to millions of songs at your fingertips, even without illegal downloading. Watch their videos on YouTube, listen to songs on MySpace, etc.
B ) Now N/A
C) Now N/A
D) Now N/A
E) So what? Be the first one of your friends to like them, and then you may spread the gospel of Sonic Youth to them.
F) Now N/A
G) Now N/A

Have fun!

I've been listening to them a lot lately and I think they're reaalllyyyy good. I have a burned copy of their new album and it's OK. But I think Teenage Riot is one of the best songs ever.

So I was watching Gilmore Girls reruns and Kim and Thurston appeared on one episode performing What A Waste. It was pretty awesome. Also had a bunch of Neil Young references. "Heart of Gold my ass!" :haha

*knows no one has no idea what he's talking about*

*promises this is the last you'll hear about the Gilmore Girls for awhile*

Dec. 3 edit: Wooo! B-sides album out next week.

I love this band. Awesome group.

For newcomers: Pick up Rather Ripped and Goo. Best starting places without question.

For GuitarBreaker: Get Sister.

Awesome noiz band. Daydream Nation, Sister, and Confusion Is Sex are just SO great. Anyone listen to their SYR this year? SYR8, I really didn't like it and I'll go into it more if anyone else has heard/ heard of it.

I've heard of it, but I never checked it out because it didn't really seem like something I'd like. Occasionally their experimental-ness on their major label albums gets on my nerves; I can't even imagine what it would be like listening to an entire album of it. XD

It's weird...Rather Ripped has kind of weakened in my eyes since I first heard it. I think it has to do with the fact that I prefer their songs with more distorted guitar and stuff, which Ripped just didn't have. It's a good chill-out album though.

Rather Ripped is their poppy, accessible album. It's not as dense or challenging as the majority of their work. Its good, but it isn't classic.

Rather Ripped was decent, but none of their cleaner, newer stuff holds a candle to "Bad Moon Rising" or the self-titled EP. ;)

Their s/t and Bad Moon Rising weren't THAT great. Confusion Is Sex is the best of that era, obviously.

Superboy, take a little chance here
I don't wanna, I don't think so

:D

So...whose vocals does everyone prefer? I'm having a hard time choosing, because on the songs Kim sings, her voice really fits the song perfectly, like Kool Thing and Kissability, but so does Thurston's. I actually find Thurston's voice really calming a lot of time...

I don't know if I honestly prefer any, both tend to fit the type of song they're in all the time. I think I prefer Thurston, though, but that isn't to demerit Kim in any way.*

*Except for maybe some of her improved spoken word bits.

DOES 'FUCK YOU' SOUND SIMPLE ENOUGH?!

Holy crap, I can't believe that. "The Sprawl" is definitely my favorite Daydream Nation song, though I'm surprised to hear you like it that much. :P

I really want to read some of William Gibson's stuff (which inspired the song). Have you read any of it?
