Hi everybody,
I'm a 57 year old man who loves Palestrina. This is me singing all the parts to Agnus Dei from Missae Papae Marcelli. Let me know what you think!

You really sing all the parts there, Bruce? That's very cool, you have quite a wide vocal range. ^_^

Overall I really enjoyed it, though I must say some of the high-pitched parts sounded somewhat nasal at times. Still, the effect is great, it sounds really good as a whole. Nice job. :)

Have you recorded any more stuff? If you have, I'd like to hear it. :)

EDIT: Welcome to MT, by the way! :D

Hi ana,
Sorry I'm so long in getting back to you. Yeah, that's me singing all the parts. As you might imagine, the greatest challenge was the high soprano. I sang in falsetto a couple of half steps lower and applied a pitch shift to push it the rest of the way. That's the somewhat artificial sound you're hearing. Also, never having vocal lessons is probably proving a hindrance. I've always just loved to sing! I'm thinking of recording Lauridsen's O Magnum Mysterium next. I'll let you know when it's complete.
Thanks,
Bruce

You've never had lessons? Like none at all? That's impressive. I don't know how much you might've tweaked the recording (if at all), but you definitely sound better than some of the people at my university's choir. ^_^

It's not surprising that you sound this good, though, if you've always been that passionate about singing. Sometimes people who have never had lessons have a better instinct for vocals, if you know what I mean.

O Magnum Mysterium is quite a tough one, in my opinion, but it's definitely a beautiful piece. Do let me know when you finish it, I'm looking forward to hearing it. :)
