Привет, МТ! В этой теме говорите о русском языке. Здесь можете говорить по-английски. Это не испанская тема. :P
Hi, MT! Talk about the Russian language in this thread. You can speak in English here. This isn't the Spanish thread. :P

Russian is an awesome language and it has a lot of cool features. I'm guessing there isn't anyone who speaks it here so this thread is more for talking about it than talking in it. Though if anyone wants to learn some stuff I'd be glad to help out. I'll try and type things in Russian wherever possible and provide the translation; if you want to know how to pronounce any of it, I'll transliterate it too.

As for the thread title: "ад" (pronounced "aht") is Russian for inferno/hell. Now you know something useful. :P

The letter a next to a deformed letter A is hell?! :ahh:

I suppose it depends on perspective. To a Russian, our hell is just an e smushed in between some nonsensical characters.

To give you a more rounded vocabulary though, heaven is "небо" (pronounced "HYEH-ba"). :P

6 is not a letter! It's a number! Shenanigans! :ahh:

Yeah, it always feels so weird to write that. The cursive version of it is a really cool looking letter though: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/f5/02-Russian_alphabet-%D0%91_%D0%B1.svg

N-n-no! It just shouldn't have the right to be a number and a letter! It's unfair! Unless...o.o OH GOD! Did I just expose 6's identity after it was placed in the Witness Protection Program after the case of 7-8-9!?

Actually, it is 7, 8, and 9 that entered the Witness Protection Program.

Seven straightened out and flipped sideways: Г. Now they call him "ge."
Eight grew a mustache and turned 90 degrees: ф. Now they call him "ef."
Nine turned upside-down: б. Now they call him "be." You just confused him for 6, which I reckon he wouldn't be too happy about.

How can I confuse him with 6? It is 6. Seven eight nine so nine is dead and six was placed in witness protection because he witnessed it and was afraid of seven eighting him, too.

That was just the story that was in the tabloids. That's not what really happened.

Russian words of the day:
бабуля (bah-BOOL-yuh) - granny
старец (STAR-yetz) - old man

These are both titles of songs on one of the Russian albums I've been listening to recently. XD

Tabloids don't lie!!

Does "babushka" translate to anything or is that just a bastardized way to say "бабуля"?

"Babushka" (spelled "бабушка") means grandmother. "Бабуля" is a diminutive form of it. :)

Also the stress is actually on the first syllable unlike it's commonly pronounced.

Pretty good. It's really not too difficult. Not much harder than Spanish really (because I have the experience with learning a foreign language now).
