All I own/have heard is their greatest hits (all 30 of them) but I've never really been impressed by them. First punk band or not, their songs all sound very similar to me and I don't even find most of the melodies catchy. Not sure if I even want to venture outside of their greatest hits. |

Their first three albums were a lot of fun. They're far from the best punk band or anything, but I find them enjoyable and catchy. I think it also has a lot to do with the spirit of the times. Bands like the Ramones and the New York Dolls were really refreshing and new at the time when progressive rock was bloating itself beyond description (Emerson, Lake, and Palmer anyone?) and punk rock came about as a rejection of 'progginess' (Johnny Rotten was famous for his "Pink Floyd Sucks!" shirt--or something like that. Even though he was actually into prog music- Van der Graaf Generator, actually!). Rock was becoming stale and pretentious, so the punks broke it down, made it raw, made it simple, made it fun. It's dated now, but it was necessary. Edited by Ryth, Aug 14 2009, 01:45 AM.
