They're nasty, crude, messy, ugly, shitty, and outright abrasive... but goddamn are they punk! In fact, I'd say Crass were perhaps the only band to really make true on the promise of punk. Crass have some of my favorite lyrics ever, even though I don't necessarily agree with their politics. They take sides with a lot of libertarian socialist/anarcho-syndicalist policies... and I'm not really into that school of thought. I still find Crass one of the most incredible, angry, passionate groups out there. They really believed in something, and fought for it too. They also had some serious balls, they wrote a song called "Punk is Dead" in 1978 for Christ's sake. They wanted to spread a message, best displayed on their final album in 1983 (symbolically deciding to break up in 1984) Yes Sir, I Will where all ideas of melody, structure, or "music" are thrown out the window and replaced with horrible, detestable, dissonant NOISE and bitter spoken word. A style of anarchopunk was perfected in 1984 by Flux of Pink Indians' The Fucking Cunts Treat Us Like Pricks. I'm a big fan of The Feeding of the 5000, it sounds so shitty, but so goddamn good. The drums are amazing, the noise is scathing, the bass is slammin', and the vocalist sounds so angry and bitter you can pretty much feel the bile flying out of his mouth. |

ILU Crass. ![]() Kings of Anarcho, even though the best Anarcho record ever is without question The Fucking Cunts by Flux. I'd have to say my favorite album by them right now is The Feeding of the 5000. |

Feeding is definitely their best, the style in YSIW was perfected by Flux in 1984. Though one could argue The Fucking Cunts IS a Crass record. |
