I've heard a lot about them... I listened to Yoshimi a few times, it's decent. What are their good albums, are they worth it?

Dinkin' flicka.

If you like Yoshimi, you'll probably like The Soft Bulletin, but that's all I've heard by them. Clouds Taste Metallic is still on my to-listen to list since Brennan recommended it a while back.

In other news, this is still pretty awesome, if old at this point.

I am a one of those rabid sorts that preach mid-90s Lips as some of the best alternative music to ever grace human ears. It was a simpler time of fuzz and fun, and I can't stand their overblown, pretentious work like Yoshimi and the Soft Bulletin-- it feels like a knife in the back. :(

Start with Hit to Death in the Future Head and then work your day to Clouds Taste Metallic, it is is a lot of fun to watch the band mature. From dark psychedelia to innocent pastels, the Lips provide a good time.

Ok yeah so after revisiting the Soft Bulletin I really don't like it. The first two tracks are great and then most of the rest of the album is bad, and when merciful, boring. And the decision to double up two songs at the end of the album is extremely annoying, especially when they had the gall to not even market them as bonus tracks.

After Zaireeka, everything went to SHIT for The Lips. I'm glad you seem to agree, go deeper into their catalog.

Speaking of listening to properly. I'm thinking of investing into a high quality pair of studio headphones. Not only do I need them for listening, but recording also. (I just finished arranging a 6th song, pretty soon I'll start recording all these pieces as an album.. half of it is in the style of Agalloch somewhat, and the others are more jazzy!)(offtopic)

I am not a fan of much of of what I heard by The Flaming Lips, but I think everyone should listen to Embryonic because it's pretty damn awesome. I only listened 2 times so I'm still getting familiar with it, but it has potential to be one of my favorites of 2009.

Really? That's surprising. I've been avoiding it because I wasn't expecting much, but maybe I'll give it a listen.

Or do you just like it because Karen O is on it? :P

I didn't know she was on it... So no. The tracks tend to blend together a lot in my mind but I think that's because I've only listened to it twice, but I liked it enough to want to listen more.

I really have no faith in the Lips at this point, so I don't know if I'll bother.

For some reason I don't like Clouds Taste Metallic nearly as much as I should. I mean quirky noise rock with catchy melodies? That should be right up my alley. But I'm pretty indifferent towards it for whatever reason.

Well, I'm not too cynical and cold for Clouds Taste Metallic, I rather like it!! Also, Yoshimi has grown on me a lot, and Embryonic is still one of my favorites of 2009. It probably should have made my decade list too but I've decided I'm done fidgeting with that.

I am losing my trust in you guys. The Soft Bulletin is really damn great and will inevitably overtake Embryonic as my favorite Lips album soon. After a few listens, I like Transmissions From the Satellite Heart as well. I'm probably going to listen to everything they've done by the time I'm done.
