MT’s Song of the Month contest is simple enough: every month, MTers decide which original piece of writing they like the most among those that were posted in the Writer’s Corner during that month. All lyrics and poems are automatically eligible for SotM; short stories, however, are not. Pieces in languages other than English will not be eligible for SotM unless an English translation is provided. Threads that contain more than one piece will not be included in the SotM contest - if you want your lyrics and poems to be eligible for SotM, they must be posted in separate threads. Likewise, pieces that consist of four lines or less will not be eligible for SotM. The process of deciding which piece becomes SotM involves two stages, which are the following: Nominations At the start of every month, a thread will be posted with a list of eligible pieces for SotM - that is, the pieces that were posted the previous month. The nomination thread will remain open for ten days, during which you can nominate up to three pieces from the list (if possible, include both the title of the piece and its author in your nomination). You may nominate more than one piece by the same author, but you cannot nominate your own work. The three pieces that have received most nominations by the time the nomination thread is closed will then enter the voting stage (if one month there are only three eligible pieces, they will enter the voting stage automatically). Voting Once the nomination thread has been closed, a poll will be posted so you can pick the piece you like the most. Again, you cannot vote for your own work. For a voting thread to be valid, at least five votes must have been cast. If there aren’t enough votes, the voting thread will remain open until the fifth vote is cast. Should there be a tie, the voting thread will remain open until that tie is broken – if it seems unlikely that it will be broken, though, the poll will be closed anyway and the authors of the pieces involved in the tie will receive an equal amount of Notes. Once the SotM winner has been chosen, the winning piece will be stickied at the top of the forum and marked with *SotM* until the following month, when the new SotM winner will take its place. Scoring system Participating in the SotM contest can earn you MT Notes (♪), which are given to the three pieces that reach the voting stage as follows: ♪300 for the 1st place, ♪200 for the 2nd place and ♪100 for the 3rd place.
