The founding members of The Mars Volta began a side project that the rest of ATDI didn't approve of. They split to form The Mars Volta and Sparta. De-Loused in the Comatorium: This was The Mars Volta's first full-length album. Flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers does much of the bass on the album and the two bands toured together. The album features many segments of ambient noises which helps to get the feel of the album which is supposed to detailed fiction about someone in a drug-induced coma. Frances The Mute This was the first commercial success of The Mars Volta. Its tracks were loosely based on characters found within the diary that their former sound technician found in the backseat of a car when he worked as a repo-man. The song The Widow received much radio and TV air time and helped the album debut at number four of the Billboard Album Charts. Amputechture This album was written while Rodriguez-Lopez was in Amsterdam and working on a movie score. John Frusciante is featured on all but one of the tracks. After the album was recorded, the band's drummer was fired because he was the only member who was discontented with playing live and he was "bringing the rest of the band down". The Bedlam in Goliath The recording of this album was plagued with difficulties. The band members believe it was due to the purchase of an Ouija board while in Jerusalem. The sound engineer had a nervous breakdown, tracks were randomly deleted and the studio was flooded twice. Despite the setbacks, the album debuted at number three. Excellent band, even though everyone knows my feelings toward Amputechture. |
